Check the gaskets between carb & intake & intake & head. Sounds like it may be drawing air into the combustion chamber from one of these places. You can check by spraying WD-40 in these areas when its running. If it runs better while spraying, chances are thats where the problem is. (Be careful when spraying WD-40, as it uses propane for propellant.)
