Yes condensasion can cause alot of water build up in engine if not warmed up regularly.
I would not change to detergent oil in an old engine that you do not change oil more often,you said it had not been changed since last year.
If engine has not had detergent oil in it and is old and worn,detergent oil could loosen old crud and ruin engine.
