Larry, I had the same trouble on my 806D and I took my alt to a shop. It is a Delco-Remy one wire alt. My alt did not have a plug for the two wires at all, just the one to the batteries. The alt guy gave me a plug for 3.50 and I wired it up like he said, good charge now and they hold when I shut off the ignition switch. If you want a pic of how it is wired, email me and I will send one.
