DMeyer, To embelish what Tom H added, remove #1 plug and while you have your thumb or finger over the hole, hand crank the engine until you fee compression pushing your finger off the hole. Take a flash light and look into the hole and rotate the crank so that the piston is at the very top of its stroke. Now remove the distributor cap and check that the metal tab on the rotor button is lined up with the #1 plug wire socket on the cap if you were to put the cap back on. Make sure the firing order/plug wires are correct clockwise around the dist. cap from #1, then 3, 4 & 2. You can fine-tune it after it starts using a timing light with the mark on the crankshaft pulley and the pointer on the front timing cover by rotating the whole distributor one way or the other.//FB
