This tractor was the first that came out in 1956 pretty much in the order big diesel describes. They were shiped, primarally into the Canadian market in the beginning. Here in Canada we also had 444 that came after the 414. That 444 is not the same 444 shown in Wendell's book 150 years of IH. The 250 and 275 were built for British climate and didn't fare very well starting in Canadian winters. It was always said you couldn't get them going from Nov. to April. That inproved in the 414 and even better after that. They are still completely rebuildable, my neighbour just did one. The 250 has a transmission driven pto. Its transmission is 5 speed similar to an H, no Hi-Lo. The 275 has a constant running pto., 4 speed transmission with hi-lo. These were durable little tractors as long as you didn't have cold weather. I have also heard tell of that being cured, so I wonder if there wasn't an upgrade could be done during a rebuild.
