That right the 666/686 had the D312 engine in them.Lookes just like a small version of the bigger 414,436,466 they used in the bigger tractor like the 966 to 1566/86. We had a 686 diesel TA gear drive from 78 to about 87 was a good unit for planting and spraying.Sorry we sold it.But at the time we use to also but it on a Pea Cutter at Green Giant's in the summer swathing peas. Drove the tractor in reverse with the swather mounted on the back of the tractor ,Was an odd looking setup with a two seats and dual pedals for driving it both directions. But G.G. changed to direct sweep pick heads on Selfpropeled Pea harvesters in the late 80's.So the swathing jobs were eliminated. We have a 684 for lite jobs now But its not a patch to the 686 ,other than being good on fuel. Sorry we didn't keep it.
