John: Sure it will work, I read of a guy starting a WD40 that way after the tractor spent 40 years in the bush. The way he talked did it all the time on tractors that hadnt been going for years. You shouldnt stand by a flat belt working any time unless shielded. You should take IHank's advise though, your not starting a tractor that hasnt been going in years.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
