I'm more familiar with the M than the H, but I assume similar. The M calls for free travel of 1 1/8 inch from where the pedal rests against the transmission top plate. That is you push the pedal out 1 1/8 inches before you begin to feel the resistance of the main clutch springs. I would think that 1/2 inch is a little light on clearance because with the linkage wear and so on with a 50 year old tractor the return spring might not pull the throwout bearing away from the clutch fingers which is what you want. With the clutch engaged, there is supposed to be 3/16 inch clearance between the throwout bearing face and the clutch fingers. On the H, which has more space, you might be able to take off the cover on the bottom and see that clearance. On the M you can't because the lift all completely fills the space.
