head gasket on H

I posted an earlier message about my H blowing white smoke and was told to check for a cracked head or a bad head gasket. I am going to dive into this project this weekend and would appreciate any insight on what I might need in advance as far as parts and tools are concerned. I've had my H for about 2 years and this will be the 1st time I do anything to the engine. thanks in advance
