A simple headlight switch with built in fuse is best because you can control your headlights worklight flashers etc. with the same switch. These switches are easy to mount most anywhere and inexpensive. Your hot power can be most any wire that is hot when everthing else is off but if there is any question just go directly to the battery + or wiring should go from hot to switch to lights. One word of caution should your 12V system have an alternator do not connect/disconnect battery with lights on as the voltage draw and resulting arch and spark can damage some alternators and/or voltage regulators.
