Something completely overlooked by everyone else,how did you get it home?I am assuming that it was loaded on a trailer by you or the seller and it would have been working right then or it would be very difficult ot load unles done with a winch.There is the possibilty that one of the pins that holds the fingers in place has came out.this will cause the exact same problem.Sometimes when we are in a hurry to fix something we dont put in new bolts,nuts,washers,COTTER PINS etc and they fail.I think what may have happened in you case is the old cotter pins were resued and broke causing the finger pin to come out.(I have done that before)
