I worked with Animal Damage Control for a time and we would wrap the trap with plastic and leave the ends free. Then if we trapped a skunk, we would work a giant trash bag over the whole trap and close it off. I also had a hose that fit up into my exhaust pipe and run the other end into the bag itself. The carbon monoxide exhaust will take care of the rest. Biggest problem we see in West Texas is skunks with rabies.
