Ok this may sound simple but I ran into the problem you are having but only when I applied the gas. My M ran great at idle...so I replaced the plugs and it still ran like crap. I pulled the fuel line off between the carb and tank. Fuel was just trickling out. I had clogged fuel valve. When I purged the carb there was fuel but there was not enough to run past an idle. Before you go spending money on parts check your tank valve to ensure enough fuel is flowing through the lines.
