Just took the tank out of my 300U to get the fill neck repaired. With the neck out of the tank I was able to see the baffles that are in the tank, one appears to come up about halfway on the backside of the tank just behind the fill neck. Perhaps crud is blocking the transfer holes under the baffle plate restricting fuel flow after you get below 1/2 tank.

It's a real pain to remove the tank if you can't get the steering wheel off so you can remove the dash but can be done. To do so remove the front tank mount and the valve cover, pull the dash up the steering colum as far as you can and remove the tank by pulling it forward and off the right side.
