Sounds to me that someone turned the wick up on it if it is black smoke , they will smoke some but not to the point of blocking out the sun unless it is set up to much . It is hard to explain how to turn it down unless you have and I/T manual , you want to turn the load screw in clock wise about a half a turn at a time , it is under the cover on the side of the pump. Also you micht want to check the timing before you screw with the pump you should have the timing pointer set at TDC or a littel advance no more then 5 degrees before TDC if it is on the retard side it will smoke more then it should.
