Unleaded gas and old tractors

Does anyone know if you need to put an additive in gas now that we no longer have lead in our gas. At least here in NZ we don't have leaded gas available. I believe older engines designed to run on leaded gas can suffer valve seat recession and other problems. I see people here with older cars getting some type of additive put in their gas tanks.
