Good post. Except that 12v does not burn up 6v starters. You can crank and crank. The starter won't get as hot as a 12v starter would. 6v starters are made for a lot more amperage than 12v starters. They have heavier wires and do not overheat. When you apply 12v to a 6v starter, the starter voltage is higher which requires fewer amps to do the same job.l Fewer amps means less heat. Starters are not light bulbs. Their amperage is not proportional to voltage. I have used 12v on 6v starters for years and years, on tractors which don't start good due to low compression and other defects and have never burned up a 6v starter.
