Stan: I will assume that you flashed the field and that your are reading a ampere meter. Place a voltage meter across your battery terminals while the engine is running. Read and record the voltage, turn on the lights and see if the voltage actually drops below the voltage you were reading before you turned the lights on. Could be that you have a faulty ampere gauge. If the voltage is actually low, you may wish to insure that you have good battery cables (no embedded corrosion) a good clean ground and clean cable terminals. Question: was the geneator output in the positive range with the lights on before you replaced the battery and regulator?.
