Well, it was a lot of "fun", but I got new wire in on my 1950 C. The old wire was so rotten, it could not be used to pull in new wire. First, as the others said, get everything all cleaned out. Mine was full of dirt, too. Then take out the battery and box if you have one (likely you've already done that). Then push the wire up through from the panel. By shining a light through the bar, you can see when it gets to the bar. Then use a rod, or another wire with a loop in the end to snag the wire and either push it out or pull it on out of the light bar. It's not easy to get the wire around that right angle turn, but it can be done.
