Does it have an inline fuel filter? When I bought my A it had an inline fuel filter and it ran terrible. Sometimes too rich, sometimes too lean, sometimes not at all, especially at idle after reaching normal operating temp. The filter was NOT plugged. Had good fuel flow with the line unhooked at the carb. Threw the filter away and put a new screen in the sediment bowl and have not had any trouble since. Don't know why, but it worked! Good luck.
