I'm really into things now. The Farmall A 1946 is back wheels and engine only. I need to change the front crank seal. Got a gasket kit from Ontario Used Tractors, the kit is made by TISCO. The gaskets are a complete "top & bottom" set. There was 2 crank seals in the box but not sure which one is the front. One of them is painted green on the flange with the number CR 18580 on it. The other which was not in the sealed plastic box , but in it's own plastic bag. There is no number on it, its mating surface which would go in tight to the timing gear cover seems to be machined, it also looks like a double seal , i.e. nothing can get out (oil) and nothing can get in (dirt). Who can tell which is the front seal? Also , one or the other does not fit real , real tight into the timing cover, the old one I took out was , beleive it or not, SOLDERED IN !!!!. I got it out with out damaging anything, should I put some kind of compound to hold the new one in place ? Pls Help if you have time.
