Farmall M : Rad Hose

I`ve just started to restore a Farmall M-1944. The previouse owner/s seem to have done a lot of modifications which I`m trying to figure out. My question at this time - is there such a thing as a tapered rad hose? The upper rad neck is about 1/8 inch smaller than the thermostat housing. This space causes coolant to leak out. My parts man said no such thing. Do I have an oddball? I`m using teflon tape and sealer to stop this leaking for now. Appreciate any input. Thanks
