HEY KENDALL, WERE DID YOU GO? I AM RE POSTING MY QUESTION FROM 9/11/2001. YES I HAVE A RESISTOR THAT MOUNTS DIRECTLY ON TO THE ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER ALL THE COILS I HAVE USED ("NAPA" IC14, "STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS" UC15 AND "WELLS" LU800) SAY RIGHT ON THE COIL BODY "USE WITHOUT EXTERNAL RESISTOR". ALL OF THESE MANUFACTURES, SAY THAT THESE COILS ARE THE ONES, THEIR CATOLOG CALLS FOR ON A 184 CUB LOWBOY, 12v SYSTEM. COULD THE FACT THAT I HAVE A INLINE RESISTOR WITH A COIL THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE ONE, BE THE PROBLEM WITH THESE COILS HEATING UP AND GOING BAD?
