You count cylinders around the distributor cap 1,3,4,2. Same as the firing order. Normally, the No. on cylinder on the cap is the top one farthest from the engine block. This could change though if someone has messed with the distributor drive parts. Get the No. 1 cylinder at top dead center of the compression stroke. Then what ever position the distributor rotor points to is where you should hook the No. 1 spark plug wire. Then hook in firing order sequence (1,3,4,2) according to the distributor rotation.
