Even if it don't break, ice can make it impossible to get it to roll. Contrary to other posts here, I'd put detergent oil in it and change it regularly if it gets real dirty. I asked several months ago whether anyuone had actuall experienced a problem with detergent in an old tractor or just hypothesized it. I don't think I had any responses. Chances are real good the last owner put detergent in it anyway. Only when someone who really loves a tractor gets ahold of it will they consider what kind of oil is really required. Out of my 28 Farmalls, I have always put detergent oil in and never known that I had a problem.
