Farmall C starter problem

I removed the starter,cleaned the commutator, oiled bushings, etc. It worked fine on the bench and one time on the tractor. Now it won't turn over at all. I measured less than one ohm resistance between the copper "hot" terminal and the case or "ground". Any ideas?, please. This starter is 50 years old and never let me down for the last 25 that I have owned it. Don' tell me to switch to one of those ugly green tractors now!Thanks!
