Hey Bob: Just to report back, I converted my 41A to 12 volt without having to get a new generator. I replaced the cutout relay with a diode (black end to "batt", silver end to "gen.") like you said. Works great: charges at about 5-6 amps. It has a magneto so no problem there. Dave Jones: You may want to try to see what voltage your generator puts out "open circuit." Mine puts out 8 at idle and 20 at full throttle. As long as it is above 12 at some point it will charge a 12 volt battery. The problem is the cutout which is supposed to close at 6 volts. You'll have to replace the cutout either with a higher voltage cutout, or modify your cutout so the points close at a higher voltage, or jury-rig it with a diode like I did. You may have a regulator and not a cutout, in which case my advice is no good. Bob M is the expert there. Dave
