300 utility carb

I have a 300 utility and I had to clean the carb. After I put it back on, my Dad has to choke it to get any power when he mows with our six foot 3 point finish mower. It runs good without choke at idle, in fact it doesn't run well at idle with choke. Does anybody know how to set the main fuel adjustment screw without running the machine? The horizontal exhaust does't allow for much warm adjustment. I have the intertec manual but a little bit of the "voice of experience" would be great. Thank you very much.
