Derrick, I had the same problem with a 1939 M. THAT OTHER GUY is on the right trail, but I wonder if taking the mag off and turning it a half would be easier. I recall getting the timing mark of the M with #1 at tdc and having turned the mag with a vise grip, had it ready to fire at #1, I bolted it on and it started on the first lift of the crank. There is certainly nothing wrong with your mag. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario.
