Thanks, I ended up borrowing a dial indicator and measured the timing at 1.0mm pre-stroke several times. It's within 1/2 degree. I guess either the operator's manual should say "beginning" of delivery not "end" of delivery - or I can't measure it accurately by watching fuel go up a capillary tube ? (I think that's pretty accurate and foolproof). Anyway, the dial indicator method is the way the engine manual says to set up the pump after disassembly, it's the most accurate method they show and you can even adjust the internal timing mark pointer by this method. I'm on to the next problem, this one's beaten to death... Unfortunately the new injector tips didn't fix everything. I still get the white exhaust puffs on acceleration after idling a while. I guess it's probably leaky valves or rings (not much blow-by though). Should have done a compression test while I had the injectors off, but I was too preoccupied to make a fixture to do that. Klaus
