I was mowing prairy hay a couple years ago and I hit a nest. I was stung before I noticed what was going on. After I looked and saw I clutched and found higher gear. I took off at much higher speed before I even realized I still had the mower in the grass and trying to mow. I raised bar and shut the mower down without slowing down and the bees chased me clear across the field. I didn't run anything over though. The bad part about the whole mess was I had to finish mowing. Luckly I got it all mowed except a little narrow strip. After that I had to figure out how I was going to rake it. I got into pick up and drove out there and rolled windows up and drove over the nest a couple times. I bet there was 250 bumble bees that came out of there and started buzzing around the truck hitting the windows. Is what I did is I raked about 3 windrows up and down the field over the bee nest with the pick up and then raked the rest of field with tractor. The guy that I hire to bail has a cabbed tractor so it was no problem for him.
