How to get lower tranny gears out of H.

If any of you have ever rebuilt or tore apart the trany gears out of an H or M, you might be able to help me. I need to get the bottom gearshaft that the pto slides on the rear and the hydraulics run off the front. I knocked the bearings out of boath ends, even took out the reverse idler gears and shaft. But it seems the gears need to come off the shaft before it will come out. any help is ,, well ,, Helpfull.
