I have had leaky caps in the past on some of these old tractors. I was like you and got tired of the gas leaking out on the new paint so decided it should be fixed. I didn't go looking for new caps or even better used ones but here is what I did. I noticed that when the cap was turned on the tank the cap still fit loose. So I took the circular old rubber gasket out of the cap. It just wasn't sealing up any more. I went to the local parts store and got one of those sheets of gasket material and put the cap on top of it and drew a circle around the cap and then cut out a gasket for it that would just fit. I put the cap on the tank and it fit much tighter and hardly leaks at all even when full. I done this to more than 1 cap and I can remember having to put 2 gaskets in some of those caps to get them to fit tight enough but it sure made it a lot better.
