I doubt it will hurt anything to use it as is. You will have to remove the transmission top to repair it. There is an inside steel half ball that was welded to the lever that will have to be re-welded. The outer half ball is supposed to be loose. It is the inner and outer half balls working together that keep the lube in and the junk out. The broken ball will not be able to move out of position and harm anything.
