I can relate to the "missed hay". Since dad passed on, and I still have his farms I have let one of the neighbors bale the hay on shares. He has the more modern equipment. I was very disappointed to see the fields when he completed. Between the "uncut" hay and what was missed by the rake I would say 1/3 of it was lost. The tractors are so large getting into a tight corner, or under a tree is next to impossible. I made the comment to my wife that when I was helping dad I had to mow in the corners square, lower the rake to pick up ALL the hay, or rerake, and when finished the field nearly looked like it had been mowed with a finish mower. But in those days if we left 1/3 of the hay on the ground it would mean the difference in getting through the winter or not. I guess it boils down to speed, and efficiency.
