I think your selection of tractors was outstanding! Especially since I also own a '48 H. I paid $800 for mine needing all new tires , the engine was running but needed rebuilt ( which I'm working on now ),and the steering pivot shaft and bearings need replaced. I think you got a really good deal. New and Used parts are plentiful. and there are some really knowlegable people on this discussion forum. they'll walk you thru just about anything you may need to do to your "new" 53 year old tractor. As far as the slow cranking goes, check your battery cables, clean the ground connection. I converted mine to 12 volts since my generator was junk, the cutout relay was missing and the previous owner had put a 12 volt battery in it. All I did was put in a alternator and wire it up. I do have a magneto ignition so the made it easier. I know you'll enjoy the hours you spend with this tractor.
