I know you said that you adjusted the linkages but, it is very very important that the gas valves be adusted to open fully. You have to take the rocker cover off to see what clearance you have between the rocker arm and the top of the gas valves. You wont know for sure if the gap is correct until you look. On mine there was a huge gap 3/8" or more. The gap only needs to be .050". Otherwise the valves dont open all the way, which doesn't allow enough gas and air into combustion chamber and becomes very hard starting. Hope this helps if its not the carb.
