there are no magnets in a generator if grounding the field and it doesent charge the gen is bad what polarity are you trying to use are you wired up correct better get a shop manual and go from there when you find the magnets let us know there are fields and an armature and brushes depending on the year CUB you have it is 6v pos ground unless you have a newer one that is 12v neg better find out what you have before you burn it up
