Water Temp

I just replaced the water temp guage on my Super C after having tested it in hot water. It seemed to work fine. I also replaced the thermostat a couple of months ago. The temp stays way down in the cold range, which I know can be bad for the engine. Could there be a problem with the thermostat being stuck open or could I have placed it in upside down?
