A year ago I got an H with the transmission removed. It was fairly easy to put back in. The rear of the sliding gear shaft has 3 or 4 bolts you remove, and the front is a roller bearing that just slides out of the middle of a gear that connects to the constant mesh gear. This gear, and the belt pulley gear, are held in place by 5 or 6 9/16" bolts located in the chassis where the hydraulic pump unit goes. You can remove it without removing the pump, but IT'S A PAIN! You're better off removing the pump (which is very heavy). The rear of the counter shaft sets in a ball bearing and stays there with a snap ring. The front of the counter shaft screws into a coupling for the hydraulic pump shaft; there is also an oil seal. One trick is when you mate the front of the sliding gear shaft bearing with the constant mesh gear: make sure you put them together carefully, because the roller bearing retainers will unseat the rollers if they have much force put on them (I did this last fall). The best reference I had was the parts catalog and the engine service manual; I studied them a lot before I did anything. I also have pictures of the gears in place as well as other transmission housing pictures (1940 H).

He owned a small sawmill for sawing "baccer" sticks. The Super A was the powerplant. When I was old enough (7 or 8), I would get up early and be dressed to
