I'd say a leak is unlikely to make a difference in your system, as long as the radiator is full and the system isn't under a vacuum for some reason. The system operates on the difference in density between hot and cold "water" and a small leak to the outside shouldn't make much/any difference unless it upsets that somehow, like having too much fluid leak out of the system. Before you spend a bunch of $$ on the radiator, be sure you look for restrictions (collapsed hose or a bunch of crud) especially at the bottom of the system.
