I don't think JB Weld would hold up to the oil or loads. Now that you've done the hard work of getting the box out, if it were me, I'd try fix it once and for all. I'd take the shaft, gear, and key to a machinist and have him do the work it takes to get a real good fit. On the tapered shaft, I take it that the nut runs out of threads before getting tight? A washer might help this. You also should try and minimize up and down end play as you assemble the shaft in the box. That will also contribute to steering slop. Mine has some of this end play and I don't know how it is adjusted (shim washers or what). I'd be interested in what you find. David
