Jim Bub, To smoke that much I'd say a ring job is likely. While you had the pan off did you check the rods/pistons for any kind of slap in the sleeves? Could be ring gaps are out of proper alignment, worn excessively among a few other things. I'd also recommend a straight 30W oil as the heavier viscosity (than your 15w40) would help a little bit but not if it's that bad already.//FB
