With an overheating problem, I guess your right looking into waterpumps. But I would also add the housing that provides a thermostat. After mowing in the summer I can still hold my finger in the water - can't be more than about 120 deg. In the winter I can't even get the water hot enough to warm a cold finger. There were thousands of thermosyphon machines made and I'd kind of concluded from other postings that the system works fine under most conditions.
