The single most important thing to do is to block the tractor so it CANNOT roll, shift, slide, twitch, or respond to your work in any way other than holding still! Put it in gear, set both brakes, and don't take any chances! The front of these things is heavy!

The work itself is pretty straighforward. Plan on replacing that little ball bearing on the front end of the steering shaft while you're in there, and you'll find a thrust bearing under the big sector gear that may have some dimples in it, especially if that tractor has spent time with a loader on it.
