NEED ADVICE About A Farmall C

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by fatback on May 05, 2001 at 03:08:06 from (208.136.78.20):

I have just bought my first tractor to restore.
I bought a Farmall "C" with a wide type front end for $350.00. It will need new tires all the way around. It has 11.2 X 36" on the rear, and 6.00 X 16 on the front. Are these the proper size for a "C" ?. I want to keep everything to the orginal specs as much as possiable. Goint to order the manuals for it today.

Where are the serial numbers located on this tractor ?. I want to try to find out what year that it was made in.

It has a coil on it, as of this time I am not sure if it has been converted to 12 volt or not.

The motor is not stuck, but the gas tank is 1/2 full of old stale gasoline.

Going to change motor oil today, was told to use 30 W detergent oil. Hope that this info is right.

Also going to flush the radiator out, drain the stale gas, clean the carb, gas lines etc, and steam clean the whole tractor.

All metal seems to be in really good shape.

With a good cleaning, some TLC, and a lot of luck
I hope to try to start it on Sunday.

I was told that if it is a 6 volt system that it will be positive ground. But if someone has changed it to 12 volts then it will be negative ground, I don't want to short out, or burn up anything.

Any advice would sure be of help.

Thank You

Today's Featured Article - George's Fordson Major - by Anthony West (UK). This is a bit of a technical info to add on to the article about George's Major in the "A Towny Goes Plowing" article. George bought his Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00. There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken by Harold alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that the major was produced late 19 ... [Read Article]
