I had an odd carb on my A. I went ahead and got a proper carb. Mine had too wide of mounting stud spacing. One stud had been removed, and a skinnier bolt put in its place. The carb had worked, but I wanted a correct one. These carbs and minor variations were used on a lot of tractors. Maybe you have one from a different tractor, that just happened to be close and fit???
