Lowell - Did you try engaging two gears at once (i.e. reverse and 2nd?). That'll lock the transmission tighter than a banker's heart. Another possibility to engage the PTO clutch, then hold the PTO shaft with large pipe wrench. Chain chain the pipe wrench handle tight to hitch to prevent turning. Trick is to get the countershaft held absolutely rock solid so the brass punch gets a good shock into the nut with each hit.
