Replacing the seal on the steering shaft is pretty easy. If it is the seal on the pedestal that supports the front wheels, it's a bigger job. To replace the seal on the steering shaft: - Take the grill off - Take the steering shaft loose from the steering gear shaft by removing the roll pin that goes through the universal joint and the steering gear shaft and then sliding the universal joint off the shaft. You probably will have to take the bearing (clamp)loose that holds the steering shaft to the clutch housing. -make sure to get the half moon key out of the steering gear shaft before you try to remove the shaft. - Drain the oil out of the steering gear - take a big wrench and unscrew the large plug on the front of the steering gear. - You can then screw out the worm gear together with the thrust bearing that is on the end. -now you can easily pop out the old seal and press in a new one. And then put things back together. While you have the worm gear out, check the ball bearing. If it has any play in it, replace it too while you have it out. Play in that bearing is a source of play in the steering. The bearing costs less than $10. Good luck. If you have to replace the pedestal shaft seal, you will need to remove the radiator and the entire front bolster. It requires a bearing press to get things apart to replace that seal.
