I just had this problem fixed on my 1951 H. It could be one of several things or more likely a combination of these. Bent shift forks is one, a worn high gear, which is more than likely caused from trying to shift while the tractor was moving.Another common problen is the gear shifter poppet spring will break and not hold the poppet in place which will allow the transmission to come out of gear. Another is that the main shaft will be worn and need replacing or maybe the pilot bearings are worn out and need replacing. If it won't stay in gear at all I would guess that you are going to have to replace that gear. If your luck is like mine it will be several if not all of the above.
